Need more websites than your plan allows: adding a site and choosing a bigger plan

Choosing the Right Plan·· 49 views· 5 min read

The short answer: Pro counts 1 site, Plus 6, and Ultra and the three Business plans do not count sites. When cPanel will not let you add another domain, you have three ways out: check whether the new address really has to be a separate site (an alias or a subdomain may do), free up the place of a site you no longer use, or upgrade to the next plan, with nothing moving. If the sites belong to your clients, the answer is usually different: reseller hosting. How much each site weighs on the account is in several websites on one plan; this is what to do when the counter runs out.

What kind of address you need

What you want What to create Does it count as a site?
Another domain showing the same site (the .net and the .com, say) An alias (parked domain) No: it is the same site under another name.
A part of your site with its own address (shop.yourcompany.com) A subdomain It is not an addon domain; it has its own counter in the Statistics sidebar.
A test copy of the site A test subdomain No, and delete it when you are done.
A second business, with its own domain and site An addon domain Yes. This is what the plan counts.
A client’s site, with their own cPanel An account of its own, on reseller hosting It stays outside your account.

Adding the site, step by step

1 See where you stand: in cPanel, the Statistics sidebar has an Addon Domains line with how many you use and the limit. On Pro, the main domain is already the included site. cPanel menu names change slightly with the version and the language: look for the meaning, not the exact word.
2 Tidy up first: any idle sites, old versions or forgotten tests? Take a backup (a full cPanel backup), download it, and only then remove the domain under Domains. The place is freed.
3 If the new address is the same site, or part of it, create an alias or a subdomain instead of an addon domain.
4 If you really need another site, upgrade in My MozOut, under Services, on the service, at Upgrade/Downgrade (how to upgrade your plan). Nothing moves; the new limit applies once it is paid.
5 Add the domain in cPanel, under Domains, and point it at the hosting: how to add another domain. The free SSL certificate arrives by itself.
6 Install the site and, after a while, check Resource Usage: every site in the account shares the same space, CPU and memory. If one of them is much heavier, you can move it to another plan.

Optimise or upgrade?

Situation The answer
Idle or test sites taking up places Tidy up: deleting them, with a backup, frees the place.
The new address is the same site An alias, no upgrade.
On Pro, and you need a second site Upgrade to Plus: up to 6 sites and 20 GB.
On Plus, and you need a seventh site Upgrade to Ultra: unlimited sites and 30 GB.
Many sites, and space or resources are getting tight Business Pro, Plus or Ultra: unlimited sites, 50, 100 or 200 GB, and more resources.
Clients’ sites, each with its own cPanel Reseller hosting: I with 10 accounts and 50 GB, II with 30 accounts and 120 GB, III with 60 accounts and 250 GB, each client account with the limits of Pro (I), Plus (II) or Ultra (III). See reseller hosting or one plan per client.
One site is much heavier than the rest A plan of its own, or a VPS if it needs resources of its own.

Bigger plans

Pro (1 site, 10 GB NVMe SSD), Plus (6 sites, 20 GB), Ultra (unlimited sites, 30 GB), Business Pro, Plus and Ultra (unlimited sites, 50, 100 and 200 GB, and more resources). From Ultra up, the number of sites stops being the limit: what counts is the space and the resources they all share. On every plan, e-mail accounts, databases and traffic are unlimited. Our usage warning e-mails show how many sites you have and the plan’s limit, but sites never trigger a warning. You upgrade in My MozOut, under Services, on the service, at Upgrade/Downgrade; you pay only the difference until the renewal, and the site, the e-mail and the files stay where they are: how to upgrade your plan.

Plan Sites
Pro 1
Plus 6
Ultra Unlimited
Business Pro Unlimited
Business Plus Unlimited
Business Ultra Unlimited
Unlimited does not mean endless: on Ultra and Business there is no site counter, but every site shares the same space and resources, and if the account reaches its limit they all suffer at once. Before removing a domain you no longer use, check that it has no mailboxes still in use: without the domain, its mail stops working.
