Which hosting plan comes next: upgrading Pro, Plus, Ultra and Business for more room

Choosing the Right Plan·· 3 views· 6 min read

The short answer: the hosting ladder is Pro, Plus, Ultra, Business Pro, Business Plus and Business Ultra. Each step gives more space, some give more sites and more e-mails per hour, and the bigger plans also have more CPU, memory, processes and I/O. Pick by the resource that is at the limit (the one in your usage warning, or in Resource Usage in cPanel): it is not always the very next step. You upgrade in My MozOut, pay only the difference up to the renewal date, and the site, the e-mail and the files stay where they are.

Limits per plan: what each step adds

Resource Pro Plus Ultra Business Pro Business Plus Business Ultra
CPU 100% (1 core) 100% (1 core) 200% (2 cores) 200% (2 cores) 300% (3 cores) 400% (4 cores)
Memory (RAM) 1 GB 2 GB 3 GB 4 GB 6 GB 8 GB
Entry processes (EP) 20 30 40 50 75 100
Number of processes (NPROC) 60 80 100 120 150 200
Disk I/O 10 MB/s 15 MB/s 20 MB/s 30 MB/s 40 MB/s 50 MB/s
IOPS 1,024 2,048 3,072 4,096 6,144 8,192
Files (inodes) 200,000 400,000 600,000 1 million 1.5 million 2 million
Space (NVMe SSD) 10 GB 20 GB 30 GB 50 GB 100 GB 200 GB
Sites 1 6 Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
E-mails per hour 100 200 300 500 750 1,000

Note the CPU: it is the same on Pro and Plus (1 core) and on Ultra and Business Pro (2 cores). At those steps the upgrade gives more memory, processes, I/O, inodes and space, but not more CPU. On every plan: unlimited traffic, e-mail accounts, databases and FTP accounts; SSH and PostgreSQL; automatic daily backups. So those will not help you choose.

Reseller plans: Reseller I has 10 accounts and 50 GB, II has 30 accounts and 120 GB, III has 60 accounts and 250 GB, and each client account gets the limits of one plan: Reseller I those of Pro, Reseller II those of Plus and Reseller III those of Ultra (CPU, memory, entry processes, processes, I/O, IOPS and inodes).

Which plan comes next, by the resource at the limit

What is at the limit Where to upgrade
Disk space The step with room for today’s usage plus a year of growth. From Ultra (30 GB) the next one is Business Pro (50 GB). First, see what to delete first.
Number of sites From Pro (1) to Plus (6); from Plus, once you pass 6, to Ultra (unlimited). See need more websites than your plan allows.
E-mails per hour From Pro (100) to Plus (200), from Plus to Ultra (300), and from there to Business Pro (500), Business Plus (750) and Business Ultra (1,000). For newsletters, a dedicated sending service beats any plan: the hourly e-mail sending limit.
CPU, memory, processes or I/O For more CPU, pick a step with more cores: from Pro or Plus to Ultra (2), from Ultra or Business Pro to Business Plus (3) or Business Ultra (4). Memory, processes and I/O grow at every step. For a shop or a site with traffic peaks, the Business line. But first check whether it is the site: what to measure before you change plan.
Number of files (inodes) From 200,000 on Pro to 2 million on Business Ultra (table above). A bigger plan, after cleaning up: too many inodes.
Several resources at once One upgrade often solves both: two limits reached at once.

How to decide and upgrade

1 Read the usage warning or open Resource Usage in cPanel: which resource, how much, and for how long. What the warnings mean is in usage warnings at 75%, 85% and 95%.
2 Make sure it is not a problem with the site. Clutter on the disk, a cache with no end, a heavy plugin or robots use up resources on any plan. Clean up and optimise first.
3 Pick the step by the resource, using the table above, with room for the coming year. If today’s usage is already close to the next step, skip one.
4 Upgrade in My MozOut: Services, the service, Upgrade/Downgrade. The steps are in how to upgrade your plan. You pay only the difference up to the renewal date.
5 Check the new limits in Statistics and Resource Usage, and keep an eye on usage for a month.
6 If the account was suspended for being over the limit, the upgrade reactivates it by itself right after.

Optimise or upgrade?

Situation Optimise or upgrade?
The site is slow at any hour, even with no visitors Optimise. The plan is not the problem.
Usage jumped suddenly after a change to the site Optimise. Undo or fix the change.
Usage grows slowly, month after month, with the business Upgrade.
You need more sites, more space or more e-mails per hour than the plan has Upgrade. Those are fixed numbers of the plan.

Bigger plans: beyond Business

If Business Ultra is no longer enough, or you need resources of your own and to install your own software, the next step is a VPS server or a Cloud server: you move to another machine and you run the server (moving a site from shared hosting to a VPS). If the sites belong to your clients, each with its own panel, reseller hosting fits better: Reseller I with 10 accounts and 50 GB, II with 30 accounts and 120 GB, III with 60 accounts and 250 GB (reseller hosting or one plan per client). The full comparison is in shared hosting, VPS, Cloud or dedicated.

An upgrade gives more resources; it does not fix the site. If the usage comes from a badly built plugin, a slow query or robots, the bigger plan fills up again, just later and at a higher cost. Decide with the Resource Usage graphs in front of you.
When in doubt, one step at a time. An upgrade needs no migration and no downtime, and you can do another one later. What happens to the dates and the money already paid is in what actually happens when you change plan.
