Which hosting plan for an event, wedding or campaign site that lives for a few weeks

Choosing the Right Plan··· 230 views· 3 min read

The short answer: an event, wedding or campaign site has a short life and, near the date, a peak of visits. It is light, and an entry shared plan is enough. The decisions that matter are where to put it (a subdomain of a domain you already have can save a registration) and what to do with it when the event is over.

What weighs, and what does not

Part of the site What to do
Address A domain of its own looks more serious and is easy to say. For a short action, a subdomain of the domain you already have will do: Subdomain or folder.
RSVPs A simple form. Test that the messages arrive and that the person gets a confirmation: A contact form that actually reaches your inbox.
Guest list Do not publish it. If you need a guests-only area, protect it with a password: Password protecting a folder.
Photos Shrink them and use WebP: Image optimisation. If they show people, ask permission from whoever appears.
The day Visits bunch up near the date: Preparing for a traffic spike.

How to choose, step by step

1 Choose the address and note the date until which you need it.
2 Make a simple version: what, where, when, how to get there, how to confirm.
3 Test everything on a phone, where most people will open it.
4 Decide from the start what you will do afterwards: keep it as a memory, redirect to another site or switch it off. See Pointing your domain at a social page.
Do not let the domain lapse without deciding. An address that was shared with many people and then vanishes shows an error to whoever opens it. See Domain renewal.
If the site is only for the days of the event, a “coming soon” page before and a thank-you page after cover much of what you need: A coming soon or maintenance page.

One event, wedding or campaignPro1 site, 10 GB SSD NVMe, and an e-mail account on your own domain for the RSVPs.
An agency or planner running several events at the same timePlus or Ultra6 sites (Plus) or unlimited sites (Ultra), one for each event.
An event with many photographs or videos to keep afterwardsPlus, Ultra or Business20 GB up to 200 GB SSD NVMe, depending on the plan.

When to move up: the confirmations bunch up near the date, so if the replies to the guests reach the plan’s limit of e-mails per hour (100 in Pro, 200 in Plus, 300 in Ultra), that is the sign to move up, as is the disk filling with photographs after the day. For a site that lives a few weeks, a short payment cycle fits better (the cycles go from monthly to 3 years); the free domain comes with the annual, two-year and three-year cycles. Moving up can be done at any time without losing the site, and every plan has an automatic daily backup with free restores.
