Typo in the domain name: can it be fixed after registering?

It happens: the domain was registered with an extra letter, a missing hyphen, or on the wrong extension. The next question is always the same — can it be fixed?

The short answer

A registered domain cannot be renamed. There is no correct button: the registry created that exact name, and a different name is a different registration. This is not our rule — it is how every registry in the world works.

What to do

1 Tell us straight away, ideally the same day. The sooner you do, the better the chance of sorting something out with the registry before the registration settles.
2 If that is no longer possible, the way forward is to register the correct name. It is a new registration, with its own cost.
3 The wrong name can simply be left to expire — do not renew it and it drops on its own; see what happens when a domain expires .
4 Or put it to work: point it at the correct name, so anyone who mistypes still lands on your site.

Before you pay, check

1 Letter by letter, especially on compound names and any with a hyphen — casa-verde.co.mz is not the same as casaverde.co.mz .
2 The extension. .co.mz and .com are different domains, possibly with different owners.
3 Singular and plural, and letters that get confused when someone dictates over the phone.
Check the name in the cart, not in your head. The moment to read the domain slowly is before you press pay. After that, fixing it costs a new registration.
