A .mz domain can reach you by different routes, and the result — the name in your name — is the same in all of them. What changes is the work left with you afterwards.

The three routes

Which makes sense for you

1	Directly with CIUEM, if you only want to reserve the name and have someone handling the rest. It is perfectly valid and many Mozambican companies do it.

2	Through a provider, if you want the name working: managed DNS, site up, e-mail arriving and a single invoice.

3	With us, if on top of that you want everything in meticais, support in Portuguese, and the guarantee that leaving one day costs you nothing.

The detail that catches companies out. A domain registered directly with the registry and then abandoned without a cancellation letter keeps accumulating unpaid years. When, five or ten years later, someone wants to use it again, those arrears have to be settled before it can be renewed. Stopping payment is not enough: it has to be formally cancelled.

The mistake that costs dearly

Some companies find out late that the domain is registered in the name of the IT person or the agency that built the site. That is neither normal nor required — whichever route you take, the registrant should be your company. See who is who in a domain registration and check who is on yours.

Check before you need to. The worst moment to discover the domain is not in your name is when you want to move it, or when the relationship with whoever registered it has already soured.
