Putting your radio player on your website: the player options on each panel

VPS & Servers·· 38 views· 4 min read

The short answer: both panels on our Streaming Server give you a ready-made player to copy into your website. SonicPanel has HTML player templates, a custom player with your radio’s image and a “live DJ” widget. VoxStream has several player designs and a cross-platform app. You pick the design in the panel, copy the code and paste it into a page. The player does not limit your audience: on every plan, simultaneous listeners are unlimited.

Putting the player on a page of your site

1 Sign in to your radio panel with the address, username and password from the e-mail you received when we set up your station. If you have not done that yet, start with the first steps with SonicPanel.
2 Find the players section (the menu name changes with the panel version and language: “Players”, “HTML Player”, “Widgets”). Choose the design, the colours and, on SonicPanel, your radio’s image.
3 Copy the code the panel generates. It is usually a short block of HTML or an iframe.
4 Paste it into your site. In WordPress, use a Custom HTML block on the page or in the sidebar: see creating and editing pages in WordPress. In other site builders, look for the option to insert code or HTML.
5 Publish and test on a computer and on a phone, ideally on another network (mobile data will do). Press play and check that the sound comes through and the song title shows, if the design displays it.
6 Add the direct listen link too (it is in the e-mail), for people who prefer to open the station in their own audio player.
Your site uses https and the player will not play? Browsers block or warn when a secure page loads sound from an “http” address. The SSL certificate is included with the Streaming Server: use the https address the panel gives you in the player. If the padlock on your site disappears because of the player, see mixed content after moving to HTTPS.
Do not make the radio start by itself when the page opens. Browsers usually block sound that plays automatically until the visitor clicks, and people caught by surprise close the page. A clear play button works better.
